Anya Lane

A project by Christopher Developments

In 2007, Christopher Developments purchased a seven and a half acre parcel of land in View  Royal, creating a subdivision called Parsons Cove. Chris decided to name the street after his young daughter Anya. This was Chris’s first contemporary design endeavor, and he is very proud that not only is it his daughter’s namesake, but that he has provided inspiration for her interest in architecture.

Purchased from a family having owned the land since the 1960’s, the Anya Lane property backs onto the Millstream Estuary, creating a scenic backdrop for this contemporary development. The space is also home to all manner of wildlife from otters and eagles to the occasional seal chasing spawning salmon. The abundant habitat made the project sensitive to the surrounding environment, and creating a public waterfront access was a challenge for Chris’ first large venture.

Chris was inspired to incorporate a Japanese influence in the exterior details for this modern home. Extensive use of native douglas fir brings an unmatched warmth to the interior, and the innovative front entry water feature creates a sense of serene seclusion on the populated street.

"Nadine and I are both very fortunate to have had the opportunity to build a new home. And, more importantly, it's been a great experience for us having Chris involved. I believe I've told Chris in the past that despite the beautiful homes he has built, we wouldn't have gone down this road if we hadn't have met him."

The clients, in the high tech business at the time, were also audiophiles. Chris used their passion as an opportunity to create a state of the art theater room complete with terraced seating, wet bar, controlled lighting and sound systems, and the most cinematic television on the market with a drop down movie screen.

The stunning sandblasted glass handrail/guardrail at the stairs was designed by the incredibly talented Charles Gabriel of Gabriel Blasted Glass. The custom piece provides a central spectacle that ties the beauty of Victoria’s natural environment into the Japanese/West Coast Modern home.
